The Story of Broadreach
Broadreach Family & Community Services (formerly known as Waldo County Preschool
& Family Services) has been making a positive difference
in the lives of Waldo and Knox county children for over a quarter
of a century. Broadreach began providing prevention and intervention
services to young children in the fall of 1983 in response to
the passage of PL-142, an act to provide special education services
to diagnosed children. Many program components have been added
since that time in an effort to ensure the comprehensive delivery
of services to area families.
In July 2005, the boards of Mid-Coast Children's Services and Waldo County Preschool & Family Services voted to merge in order to serve the children of our neighboring counties with increased collaboration and efficiency. In May, 2007, Rockland-based Youthlinks joined the Broadreach family. Then, in October of 2007, the agency officially changed its name to "Broadreach Family & Community Services", reflecting our wide scope of services and the fact that—through our expansion into Knox County—we had outgrown our previous name.
Each year, over 1000 families from across the mid-coast region benefit from the social and educational services provided by Broadreach. We are proud to be recognized as one of the top ranked early intervention and social service agencies in Maine.
